Every formula

A formula is a sequence of slots. Substitute within a slot and the proportion still holds, which is the whole reason to think in formulas rather than in outfits.

How to read them

Slots, not products

Each slot names a shape and a role, never a brand. “Fine-gauge knit in the mid tone” is a slot; a specific sweater is one way to fill it.

Formulas are ordered from the innermost layer outward, then downward to the shoe. Where a formula specifies a tone rather than a colour, such as “one step deeper”, “repeating the trouser”: the relationship is the instruction, and any palette that preserves it works.

The petite note under each formula explains what the arrangement is doing structurally: which horizontal breaks it removes, or where it puts the highest line. That reasoning is the transferable part. It applies to garments not listed here.
