Method

How a capsule is built

Four rules do most of the work. They are the same four whether the wardrobe is for an office, a season or a cabin bag.

  1. One tonal family

Every piece sits within two or three tonal steps of the others, so layers read as a continuous column rather than as stacked horizontal bands.

  2. Measurement filters, not size labels

Each slot specifies the published figures that make it work (back length, body length, inseam) rather than a size that means something different at every retailer.

  3. Counted in outfits

A capsule is judged by how many arrangements it produces, which is why the piece count is always printed next to the outfit count.

  4. One repeated shoe tone

Repeating the deepest trouser tone in the shoe does more for apparent leg length than any other single decision, and removes the daily question.

The capsules above were edited piece by piece. If none of them matches the week you actually have, the builder applies the same four rules to a brief you set, and names what the resulting plan does not cover.
