Which Brands Publish a Petite Size Chart, and What Is On It

Eleven of twenty-one publish petite measurements. Only three publish the span of the range. The difference matters.

An overhead flat lay of a shirt beside a measurement grid that is complete along its header and stub and largely empty inside, with fine leaders joining points on the cloth to the rows that should hold their figures.

How to read this piece. Every figure below is resolved from the brand directory at build time, not typed into this article: each one names the brand’s own page it came from and the date that page was read. Where a brand publishes nothing, this says so rather than estimating. The interpretation around the figures is editorial, and is marked as such. Nothing here was worn, tried or measured by the publication.

There are two separate things a brand can publish, and it is easy to mistake one for the other. A petite size chart gives you body measurements against petite size codes. A published petite size range tells you which sizes the range actually spans.

Eleven of the twenty-one researched brands publish a petite chart. Three publish the span. Most give you a table without telling you where it stops.

Side by side

Measurement practice and published size range are independent. A brand can publish a full chart and still not state the range it covers.

“Not established” means nobody has found the brand publishing it. It is not a “no”. Each record on the brand directory gives the reason for every gap.

The three that state the span

J.Jill, White House Black Market and River Island each publish the size span of their petite range. That is more useful than it sounds: it is the difference between discovering a range does not go to your size at the point of order and knowing it before you start.

J.Jill goes further than either, and its wording is worth quoting because it grants something most brands leave unsaid: that you might be petite in one half of the body and not the other, and that mixing is a legitimate way to buy.

What no brand here publishes

Every one of the eleven publishes a body size chart. Not one publishes per-garment measurement tables across its petite range: the shoulder-to-shoulder, back-length and sleeve numbers for the specific garment you are looking at.

That is the gap that keeps petite shopping harder than it needs to be. A body chart tells you which size to order. Per-garment measurements tell you whether the garment will fit, which is a different question and the one you actually have.

Measurement & fit research

Fit Research Desk

The fit research desk compiles published size charts, garment measurements and inseam data, then records what those numbers mean for a 5’4″-and-under frame. Findings are attributed to the measurements they came from.
