Petite Workwear: What Four Tailoring Brands Publish

Structured clothes are where petite drafting either shows or fails. Four ranges, compared on what they actually state.

Four tailored jackets hanging in a row on a rail, each cut with a slightly wider shoulder than the last. The shoulder points are marked, and four measurement brackets set at one common height beneath the hems put the four shoulder widths side by side.

How to read this piece. Every figure below is resolved from the brand directory at build time, not typed into this article: each one names the brand’s own page it came from and the date that page was read. Where a brand publishes nothing, this says so rather than estimating. The interpretation around the figures is editorial, and is marked as such. Nothing here was worn, tried or measured by the publication.

Everything forgiving about petite dressing disappears in workwear. A jersey dress absorbs a proportion error. A lined blazer with a set-in sleeve does not. It either sits on your shoulder or it does not, and the difference is visible across a room.

So this is the category where the published-drafting question earns its keep. Four brands with meaningful petite workwear, compared on what they state.

Side by side

Four petite workwear ranges as recorded. Category coverage reflects what each brand’s own petite pages show it sells, not an assessment of quality.

$$Our reading

“Not established” means nobody has found the brand publishing it. It is not a “no”. Each record on the brand directory gives the reason for every gap.

Reading that table honestly

Three of the four do not publish a petite drafting approach. Only J.Crew does, and it is the cheapest of the three that state a price tier. If you were expecting price to predict drafting disclosure, this table is the argument against it.

The Fold London is explicit about something different, and the honesty is worth noting: it calls its petite offering an edit, a curated selection of styles the brand considers suitable for petite frames, rather than a separately drafted range. That is a smaller claim than a petite block, accurately made.

Where returns terms decide the strategy

When drafting is unknown, the returns policy is the substitute for information. It sets the price of finding out. Hobbs publishes its terms plainly: free in store, or a fixed charge deducted from the refund if you post it back.

Measurement & fit research

Fit Research Desk

The fit research desk compiles published size charts, garment measurements and inseam data, then records what those numbers mean for a 5’4″-and-under frame. Findings are attributed to the measurements they came from.
